Filigree is a space based 3D screensaver with an ancient but mystical theme. Inspired by the Tang Dynasty, the design of the screensaver is simple yet very unique.
Filigree is not computationally or graphically intensive; it will run smooth on any reasonably modern computer. If it does not run well, try increasing the number of lines and line length. If that does not help, try disabling the glow effect.
There are no sound effects or special effects of any kind. The scenery is not interactive, but it is visually pleasing. This is a true 3D space based screensaver.

This is a very special screensaver. There is a complex intrigue going on with the lines, and you are invited to unravel it.
Filigree will create over 200,000 lines with continuously changing direction. It is unique as all other lines are 3D objects — planes, cubes and spheres.
The lines do not start or end in a random fashion, but strictly follow mathematical rules — their midpoints form isosceles triangles.
Filigree is quite complex, so it is unlikely that you will see this kind of a setup in any other screensaver.
With Filigree you have no way of telling whether the arrangement is random or based on rules. So, I have created the following instructions to you so that you can tell:
On step “1”, click the RULES slider. Step “2” you should see the following on the left:
Line types
There are 3 line types:
￭ Lines may be either positioned or placed.
￭ You can turn on or off the “fill gaps” option.
￭ The “intersection angles” are computed for the lines.
Let’s turn on the “intersection angles” to see what they are. On step “3” click the SLOPE slider.
Steps “4” and “5” take place immediately.
A mathematical figure of an angle is determined in what is called an “intersection triangle”. The angle is called an “intersection angle” when a line has non-visible intersections, i.e. intersections where the surfaces are directly touching each other. If an intersection is visible (i.e. the surfaces are “separated” by a very small distance), then this triangle is called a “separation triangle”.
The Figure 8 on the right shows the different types of intersection triangles.

You will be surprised how long time will they stand on your screen if you do not do something with them.

Filigree is the result of many efforts and experience. In this screensaver, I tried to develop the appearance of a lot of little fingers playing on a tiny piano and the “Song” is thus the construction of the filigree lines.
We do not want the lines to look a little ordinary. Each line must be a delicate little and constantly changing form. So far, I did not make it. I will try to do it in Filigree and then only, I can leave it at you.

What’s New in the?

The “Filigree” network is made of wire lines that move and radiate in all directions. The screen oscill display no texture, but every pixel has a wire that comes from a single, central point, which may be any of the pixels. The length and color of the line are determined by the sliders.
You can change the color of the central point, the angular position of the wires, and the color of the wire to display any pattern you desire.
Filigree is not a realistic simulation or an artist’s rendering. It is just an abstract way to show how a lot of lines can be linked together.
Filigree is purely line oriented, it does not generate an image with surface.
Filigree does not use OpenGL acceleration, it uses only OpenGL 1.1
